How your GPA is calculated

Multiply each course's grade points by its credits to get its quality points. Add the quality points together and divide by the total GPA credits. Grades that don't count in the GPA, like a Pass or a Withdrawal, are left out of both totals.

CourseCreditsGradePointsQuality points
MATH 2013B+3.39.9

(3 × 3.3 + 4 × 3.7) ÷ 7 = 24.7 ÷ 7 = 3.53

Retaking a course

Undergraduate. Your highest grade counts in your cumulative GPA. Every attempt stays on your record and still counts for academic standing.

Graduate (Master's). AUB doesn't publish which grade counts when a graduate student retakes a course. Enter only the grade that counts on your transcript.

  • AUB lists A+ as 4.3 points, but the GPA is capped at 4.0. A+ still helps: its extra points offset lower grades before the cap applies.
  • This calculator uses the letter-grade scale for students who entered from Fall 2019-20. Students who entered earlier have numeric grades, which aren't covered here.
  • Graduate rules here are for master's programmes. PhD and medical programmes follow different rules.
  • AUB's graduate catalogue doesn't restate the grade-point table. This calculator uses the same letter scale and 4.0 cap as undergraduates, which the Registrar lists for graduate students admitted from Fall 2019-20.

FAQ

How is the AUB GPA calculated?

Multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add the results, and divide by the total GPA credits. AUB uses A+ 4.3, A 4.0, A- 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B- 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C- 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0 and F 0.

Can my AUB GPA go above 4.0?

No. An A+ is worth 4.3 grade points, but AUB caps the GPA at 4.0. The extra points still help balance lower grades before the cap applies.

What happens to my GPA when I repeat a course at AUB?

Your highest grade counts in your cumulative GPA. Every attempt stays on your record and still counts for academic standing, and a course can be taken at most three times, including withdrawals.

Do P, W and I grades count in my AUB GPA?

No. Pass (P), No pass (NP), Withdrawal (W), Incomplete (I) and In progress (PR) don't count in the GPA.

Is this an official AUB GPA calculator?

No. Coursis is an independent student project, not an official AUB tool. Always confirm your GPA and academic standing with the AUB Registrar.

Official sources
